About Us
Riviana Foods Inc. has roots that date back to 1911 when Frank A. Godchaux brought together 33 rice mills in
South Louisiana to form Louisiana State Milling Company. The present corporate identity was established in 1965,
when Riviana Foods Inc. was created through the merger of River Brand Rice Mills, Inc and Louisiana State Rice
Milling Company. The merging of these companies also brought together the brands Carolina, River Rice, Mahatma
and Watermaid. Since, the merger Riviana Foods, Inc. has become a leader in milling technology, marketing promotion,
grades, standards and research.
The corporate headquarters, in Houston, Texas, maintains its position of industry leadership and high visibility
through sales and marketing, quality assurance, and research development. The distribution of bulk rice, packaged
rice and industrial products are conducted through two mills, four packaging facilities and the largest instant
rice plant in the world. All Riviana rice products have earned a high degree of consumer acceptance in their
marketing areas. Riviana is the volume leader in the retail rice category in the United States. Riviana markets
their rice through Industrial, branded, private label and foodservice categories. Riviana markets rice and other
food products in Central America and Europe. These are marketed through Pozuelo, S.A., Alimentos Kern de
Guatemala, Stevens and Brotherton Ltd and N & C Boost N.V. Riviana Foods also has a joint venture with Riceland
Foods, Inc., the Rivland Partnership, which is the largest rice flour producer in the U.S.
Riviana Foods Inc., Research and Development Department uses state of the art pilot plant facilities, laboratories,
and test kitchens to develop new products, improve current products, and work on finding creative ways to cut costs
and raise efficiency. Most of the developmental work begins after a specific consumer or industrial need has been
identified. Usually a "new" product is created by improving an existing product, discovering a new application, or
by adding a flavor to create a product line extension.
The superior level of quality is one of Riviana's most important goals. From the farm to the consumer, Riviana is
committed to producing the cleanest, most wholesome rice products available. In each of the company's processing
facilities strict guidelines and procedures require the evaluation of products according to Riviana specifications
and those of regulatory agencies.
Wherever they are sold, Riviana brands are known for their quality and excellence. As the rice industry leader,
our resources will continue to be directed toward a better product, better yields and complete customer satisfaction.
